Turnbull Takes The Reigns
Date of Event : Tue Aug 28, 2018 12:12PM

The committee is pleased to announce Patrick Turnbull will be First XI Captain for season 2018/19, alongside his duties as the Club Coach.

Pat, or ‘Patty Cakes’ as he’s affectionately known, has been an enormous and growing contributor to the club over his near 10 years playing.

Son of former player, Peter Turnbull (’74), Pat is known for his tight lines, crafty pinch hitting, safe hands and calm demeanour around the club. That calm demeanour belies the competitor and student of the game that Pat truly is.

This is an enormous responsibility for Pat to take on and the committee was at pains ensure Pat is ably supported through coaching training for himself, professional coaching assistance from Anthony Stubbs (bowling/conditioning) and Peter Hannan (batting), and through greater sharing of weekly responsibilities among the leaders of each team.

Here's a message from the new skipper:

"It's an honour to be captain/coach for the 2018/19 season. Having been around the club for a long time, it's exciting to see such a strong, young group of players coming through at the same time across the whole club. My aim is to give them the leadership and resources to get the best out of themselves. Anthony Stubbs and Peter Hannan have been great additions this year, the improvement is already clear to see.

The community around the club has always been tight, with senior players moving on over the past few seasons, it's important that we keep this strong. We have made big strides in our relationship with the school recently and hope to build upon that this season. Last season saw seven kids get a chance to play with SKOBCC, playing while at school is a fantastic opportunity for the kids to get a feel of what the club is about before they graduate.

Thank you to the committee, who has put in a mountain of work over the off season. It's now time to turn this hard work into results on the field. It was a huge effort to stay up in Dunstan and we are all the better for it, although we cannot rely this season on talent alone. It's time to put in the hard work needed to play finals in the top grade.

Looking forward to a great season,

Pat."
